A Bit About my Art Journey
I remember wanting to be an artist since I was a child. I loved making art and growing the talent I was given. I continued to paint and draw into my teen years, but the time I had to create art decreased as demands of college, and then later motherhood, required my attention.
As a mother of two young children, I found it difficult to find time to set up my art supplies or to think about letting myself get lost in my artwork, but now that my children are getting older, I am finding more and more opportunities to get back into my art. Now I am able to return to something that I enjoyed so much so long ago.
I am also discovering confidence through my art. Creating art has often been a private matter to me, and I have often been careful of whom I shared my art with because I have been my own worst critic at times. It takes a lot to put yourself out there and to share what you have created because there will always be some who have different opinions about works of art. When art is critiqued it feels personal because art is a part of you. I do not want my fears of opinions to hold me back anymore and I am now taking that step forward to share my finished pieces and I will see what may come. I may even blog a bit about my journey too.
Since I started my art journey I have been able to share my art in various locations including the Bohemian Gallery (Paris, ON), the Westland Gallery (London) , For the Love of Art (London), and the Byron Library. I have also participated in events including "Paint Ontario", "Paint with Purpose" fundraiser in Cambridge (2017-18), the Wortley Village "Gathering on the Green" (June 2018, 19, 21) and I have lead various paint nights. I have been invited to design stage backdrops for the North American Baptist Women's Union (Oct 2017) and the BWOQ Conference (April 2018). Recently, I became the London ArtBattle Champion on February 19th, 2020.
I am also a proud member of the Lambeth Art Association since 2020 and the London Community Artists since 2018 and I'm currently serving on the LCA board.
In the fall of 2020 I released my first book titled "Devotions for the Artist at Heart which is a faith based book that encourages readers to connect faith with their art. Each chapter will also help inspire the reader to create his or her own artwork.
